What are the different member types?

I’ve had a few questions on this. I wasn’t originally super clear myself but having reviewed 500 applications, I think I’ve now landed it.

We have two member types and we categorise Marketing Members into a few groups. Here is how it plays out:

  1. Marketing Member

This is anyone who works in marketing. It doesn’t matter where or what you do.

Based on the type of work we also assign a role type:

  • In-house marketer. This is someone who works in marketing at an organisation, marketing their own brands / products / services / anything. You can work in marketing at a bank or for the zoo or a software vendor. Anywhere.
  • Freelance. This is someone who generally works as a consultant or works with multiple organisations. They are generally self employed.
  • Agency. Someone who is a marketer, doing marketing things, in an agency for multiple clients. The distinction is who they are marketing for. If you are working in an agency and working with clients we’re applying the agency role type. We’ve had a few people who seem to have the role of marketing the agency itself, depending on the job title they may be considered an in-house marketer.
  • Student. Current student or recently graduated
  • Searching for role. A marekter who has indicated they aren't in a role right now.

How do we use role types? The main way is for segmented events. For example, we have organised specific events for job seekers with a recruiter to provide industry insights. We’ve also organised an in-house specific event and next month we’ll try a freelancer specific event.
